Prince Fan Creates GoFundMe to Attend Funeral

A woman from Indianapolis, IN has created a GoFundMe in hopes of raising money to attend the funeral of Prince, the legendary music icon who passed away suddenly on Thursday, April 21, 2016 at his Paisley Park home in Minnesota.

Meeka Late, the creator of the GoFundMe, hopes to raise $3,000 using the popular crowd-fundraising site to travel to Prince’s funeral, whose autopsy was just completed Friday, April 22, by the Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office in Minnesota. The results won’t be disclosed until his toxicology results come back within the next several weeks. His body was released to his family on April 23.

Meeka Late created a GoFundMe to attend Prince’s funeral on April 21, 2016.

In her initial GoFundMe request, Meeka wrote:

Y’all know I love me some Prince… I just need y’all to help get me to his funeral. Lord I broke down in Sam’s Club… y’all I was on the floor SangN “Purple Rain”… This man was supposed to sAng “Darling Nikki ” at my wedding….. Lord help me make it through this! Any donation will help. ThAnks, Meeka Late

As of April 23, the campaign has been shared over 95,000 times, and has reached 50% of its goal, having raised $1,500+ so far through 54+ donations. One supporter, Johnathan Maravilla, has donated over $1,134, in an effort to match donations.

While the GoFundMe has gained a lot of attention since it was created, thousands of people are upset over the nature of the fundraiser, with over 2,000+ comments posted with similar context:

With the combined efforts of Johnathan Maraville and the few contributors that stumble upon this campaign, Meeka Late is sure to have the funds necessary to attend Prince’s funeral. Details on the funeral arrangements have yet to be released to the public at this time.
